Oh, Rachel Comey, why does thou tempt me so?

Derringer oxfords, in size 5.5! Hurrah!

Hitch booties in size 5.5! Hurrah!

Okay, I am having dry heaves.  I've been schlepping around in my size 6 Mars booties for a while now because they fit slightly big. I tend to not wear them because they slip at the heel AND they are slippery AND I am the biggest klutz known to my circle of friends i.e. bad accidents do and can happen e.g.: I slipped and fell on my knees while schlepping in my size 6 Mars booties during my birthday last year after a typical Seattle November rain in front of 75 bemused people seated at The Elysian Brewing in Capitol Hill.

But apparently (cue music from 'Night of the Living Dead'), Creatures of Comfort sells the Hitch booties in size 5.5! Yay! And and and... Bird lists the Derringer Oxfords as going down to a wee size 5.5. Double yay!

I understand that I may come across as having freakishly small feet (and not to mention a little vapid because I'm heaving and fawning over shoes), but when you've spent half your adult life being told that children's shoes are good enough, this is exciting news.

  1. I can relate to the excitement, a friend of mine has to get all her shoes at the kids shoe department. Both are great shoes, very versatile. I've had the mars boots, so beautiful, but the heel was just a bit to high for me. Can't wait to see her sandals this season, they're usually lovely. Unfortunately they get really expensive when I order from sweden, with custom fees and taxes.

  3. Yay! And I thought finding 6.5s was difficult!

Would you be interested in selling your 6's to make way for the 5.5's? I've been looking at/for these boots forever! = )

  4. I totally understand your plight from the other end of the shoe size scale. As a 40, sometimes 41, I find a lot of online stores stop at 39 and only stock one or two pairs. I like the hitch boots and hope I can find a pair this seasons.

  5. Garderoben: Did you find the heel slippery at all? The height is higher than I'm comfortable with (hence contributing to my clumsiness) but it's so pretty. The sandals are out! There's some available on the links I posted above.

Jennifer: I'm still contemplating if I should shell out almost $400 without trying them on first. I might revert to schlepping around in oxfords (and buy those instead, hee!)

Karen: Can you email me? I was thinking about selling them!

Moya: I know we belong on edges of some crazy bell curve, but we're still on the curve aren't we? Creatures of Comfort stocks the Hitch up to size 11!

  6. The hitch boots are on my wishlist right now in caramel. RC always haunts me every season with covetable shoes. Swoon. Do RC shoes run true to size now, there was a time when you had to size up .5 size... guess not anymore.

  7. Hi Eunice, they do run true to size, strangely. I remember when the Penpals were so tiny I had to use a shoehorn and lots of muscle strength. =) Thanks for stopping by!

  8. No, I didn't find the heel slippery, but I added a protective rubber sole. The heels are gorgeous! Thanks for the tip, will check out the sandals!

  9. Just curious! Would you be interested in selling your Rachel Comey Mars boot? You mentioned that they were a bit ill-fitting for you. I'm an exact size 6 and I'm having the most difficult time finding this boot. Please e-mail me if you are! My name is Thanh and my e-email address is dphamdo@gmail.com
