Playing dress up

4.22.2011

(Steven Alan dress, Rennes clutch, Rachel Comey Hitch booties)

I'm not usually one for fancy dinners (I'm more of a brewpub/bistro food person) but we got a deal a few months ago for Rover's - purportedly one of Seattle's finest restaurants. We decided to belatedly celebrate our engagement there last night and I busted out one of the fancier dress I have. I won't go into details about how I found the farro oversalted and the portions painfully small but I will say that those Rachel Comey shoes are supremely comfortable now that I have them in the right size. In fact, I think they flatter my feet a little bit more than the Mars since the shaft is slightly lower - it doesn't make me look stunted! Also, Julia's handmade clutch is fantastic, it's buttery and soft and the perfect size for a cellphone, a card holder, lipbalm and keys. I'm in love.

And in other news, Happy Earth Day! I'm going to be hauling a bag of clothes to Goodwill, leaving the all lights turned off until 7pm and bringing the puppy out for a long walk in the realm of urban nature. What's your Earth Day resolution?

P/S: Thank you to the person who bought the Mars boots off me, I want to ultra hug you because you're a savior.

  1. Hot stuff! Sorry to hear that Rover's didn't live up to your expectations. I'm glad that these boots fit you better! And, your Rennes clutch is beautiful. Everything Julia makes is gorgeous, this clutch especially so.

I must be living under a rock because I did not know that today is Earth Day! Every year, I try to use less, buy less, and be more aware of where my things are coming from and under what conditions they were produced. Clothing aside, I really need to cut things like plastic wrap and paper towels out of my life!

  2. That's a lovely look! The Hitch booties are really nice, it looks like the heel isn't quite as high as the Mars boots.

  3. jennifer: I'm addicted to the Rennes clutch! I want another in red, but I should pace myself. I go through paper towels like crazy, I don't think sponges or cloths ever work as well.

Garderoben: Thank you! You're right, the heels on the Hitch are slightly shorter and I guess that works better for me since I'm such a klutz.

  4. I want to hug you right back for the Mars! Again, I am so happy for you. The Hitch looks really amazing on you and I'm glad that you're happy with your new purchase. Also, I love the blue color of that Rennes clutch. Oh my!

  5. I love a long-sleeve dress - great look, and that clutch provides such a great accent of colour.

I never do anything special on Earth Day to be honest - but I recently started bringing a reusable cloth laundry bag to dump my dirty clothes in after yoga instead of plastic bags. Just another tiny step in the right direction I hope!

  6. paperwhales: Thank you! I sent the shoes out yesterday, so it should be there really soon. I hope they work out for you. Ultra hug!

lin: Hah, one year when I was still in KL, I thought I should turn off the fan and sleep without air-conditioning on Earth Day to conserve energy. Turns out it wasn't a very smart move. Every little bit does help.

  8. That is such a pretty yet un-fussy dress. It has a vintage feel but the fit on you looks very current. I think you look Parisian chic, with an understated, un-contrived elegance.

I re-visited a statement piece today that I had no idea how to style. What do you think of the outcome?
