Public Service Announcement

2.08.2013

In case you're wondering, I've been neglecting my blog because I'm spending more time doing frivolous shite like updating my Instagram with pictures of my dog and tea breaks. Lest I become one of those bloggers that do "My Day/Week/Month/Year/Hour/Minute/Decade in Instagram Recaps", I will just point you towards that direction even though I'm probably jumping on the bandwagon a tad too late. I received one of those new Apple toys for Christmas and I'm slowly becoming an iLemming even though a certain person in this household works for the opposing team.

That being said, I find that because I'm constantly looking for ways to share what I actually enjoy in real life sans the need to elaborate, expand upon and purchase, I'm actually spending much less time doing online shopping! I've been getting back into the groove of cooking, eating better and brushing up on my photography skills (merely so I can show it off on Instagram because seriously, it's really just Flickr for a phone). I think the ability to capture minute details of your day in an instance makes one appreciate (slightly) the beauty of everyday life. I've also been enjoying other people's posts of kids (!!!), puppies and cheese immensely.

If you have an Instagram account, please leave a comment! I'd love a nosy glimpse into your life. :-) Or you can add me @assembledhazardly

    1. I swear Instagram is a time suck. I find myself browsing every hashtag known to mankind and it's not productive!

    1. Aah, this made me feel bad :-( Please don't feel envious, for the most part I think smartphones are overrated and I can live without Instagram or a phone camera or all the other frills. The one thing I can't live without is the maps application because I get lost all the time and I once ended up walking in a very bad neighborhood -- which is the only reason I have a smartphone at all.

  7. I've been given the hubs iPhone which I am only considering for the instagramming and no other reason. However, no matter how hard I try, I don't think my everyday pictures are going to look half as lovely as yours. I don't mind crazy dog or cat pictures - if my cat looked half normal, I'd feature him in the odd photo but he's got virtually no teeth, gammy oozy eyes and looks like a pirate. He'd scare people.

    1. Sue, I only put up the nice ones -- the ones that are hideous with dirty socks and dishes everywhere never see the light of day. BTW, I thought you might like the comparison of iPhone quality with my older camera phone and that should give you an idea of the magic of the iPhone camera - it's a waste if you don't use it! And also, picture of cat sounds pitifully cute :-)

  9. Nice to "see" you, I always enjoy your posts.

I'm hesitant to join instagram because it's owned by FB now, and because I guess I'm ultimately pretty private. It's still tempting though.

I live far away from family friends and I tend to take iphone photos and email them directly to the people I'm thinking of, with minimal commentary. It's the #1 reason I like my phone, actually, as it really helps me show the people close to me what my daily life is like (which is one of the most distancing things about living far, I think, not having that feel for daily life). I even send food pictures, always to my mother so that she knows I'm eating well.

    3. You can set your Instagram to be private although I guess that negates the purpose if you're already sending pictures to your friends & family. I think Instagram changed the terms of condition after the uproar over being able to use your pictures at will. Instagram is just my way of connecting mostly with other bloggers or people I don't already talk to in real life, because honestly, none of my actual friends care about my shoes, or food and I've already bombarded them to death with pictures of my little rascal.

  15. I started reading your blog a couple of days ago and I'm thoroughly enjoying your photographs and writing. I know you're not a style blogger per se, but your style posts and thoughts on consumerism, investment pieces and curating (my least favorite trendy word) are giving me hope. You're proof that it is still possible to find a thoughtful person who likes beautiful things but is not vapid. So thank you!

I'm also following you on instagram. I'm @annedielmo
